Chinese Culture Festival 2025: Taisheng and Huayin Lao Qiang: Big Uncle, Second Uncle are All His Uncles Concert

17.8.2025
Auditorium, Tsuen Wan Town Hall
$380 | $280 | $180

The focus of this concert will be the fusion and collusion between traditional and contemporary music.  Zhao Taisheng, the recipient of Artist of the Year (Music) at the Hong Kong Arts Development Awards in 2024, will engage in a dialogue with Zhang Ximin, the ‘representative inheritor’ of Huayin Lao Qiang, and other Huayin Lao Qiang artists through music and illustrate the diversity and uniqueness of Chinese traditional music.  Huayin Lao Qiang, also known as ‘the living fossil of ancient Chinese music’ and ‘ancient Chinese rock’n roll’, is a tradition of rousing, rhythmic, lusty folk singing and narration and was recognised as one of the first entries in the National Intangible Cultural Heritage List in 2006.

Music Consultant: Chiu Tsang-hei
Performers: Zhao Taisheng (Sanxian)*, Shaanxi Huayin Lao Qiang Troupe, Band (Chris Collins, Costel Pascu, Sylvain Gagnon and Mario Venditti)
