Chinese Culture in Hong Kong Gardens - ‘Civil-military Strategies Journey to Kowloon Walled City Park’ Public Tour

Organiser: Chinese Culture Promotion Office, Leisure and Cultural Services Department
Coordinator: Society of Hong Kong History

In 1847, the Qing Government built Kowloon Walled City and stationed hundreds of troops there to reinforce coastal defence due to its strategic value. However, why did the area later fall into a state of semi-anarchy and transform into the park designed based on Jiangnan gardens? To find out the answer, you must join our ‘Civil–military Strategies – Journey to Kowloon Walled City Park’! Enter Kowloon Walled City Park, where you can explore historic building and archaeological remains with our docent while appreciating the art of garden design in Jiangnan. Experience the profound essence of Chinese culture between historical relics and garden landscape!
