Chinese Culture in Hong Kong Gardens – ‘Civil-military Strategies – Journey to Kowloon Walled City Park’ Public Tour

Due to the strategic importance of its location, the Qing Government built Kowloon Walled City in 1847 as a military outpost to strengthen the region’s coastal defence. But how did it become a semi-lawless enclave in the 20th century, and how was it transformed into the Jiangnan garden-style park we see today? Discover the answers in our public tour, ‘Civil–military Strategies – Journey to Kowloon Walled City Park’!

Join our docent as we explore Kowloon Walled City, learning about its history through historic buildings and archaeological finds while appreciating the rich culture and artistic nuances behind Jiangnan architectural design.
